No matter how pious a Muslim is or for any leader from Islam or a Non-Muslim the manner of conduct in relation to the Holy Quran is to be the same. Cast, color, origin or being related to one country or the other does not exempt any person from the specific etiquette of reciting and handling the Holy Quran.
In Islamic belief, the Quran holds a very prominent position and is indeed thought to be a collection of the words of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) through the angel Gabriel (A.S.). The manner in which the Quran is treated does have an effect on a person's life and his/her environment. It is up to the person, Muslim or Non-Muslim, to bring about the positive or negative effects through his or her intentions.
The proper conduct of reciting or reading the Quran is completely dependent on an individual. Whether he/she chooses to recite for the purpose of God’s blessings or for mere knowledge of what God has communicated to the mankind, no matter what the case, the following general points must be kept in mind while interacting with the Quran.
The Physical Treatment of the Holy Quran
- Be it a Muslim or a Non-Muslim, all those who touch the Quran must be clean and should do so only after ablution.
- The clothing must be clean from all sorts of impurities. Dust stains, oil stains and other similar to those mentioned, do not count as impurities.
- One must not be intoxicated while attempting to read the Quran.
- The Quran must be kept at a place neat and pure from all sorts of noise and worldly activities.
- At no point, a person attempting to read the Quran, should turn his/her back towards it or his/her feet in the direction of the Holy book.
It must be noted, that in accordance with Islamic belief, that these are the very basic requirements that should be observed when attempting to recite the Quran.
Recitation/Reading the Quran
Quran was revealed to guide all mankind away from activities resulting in chaos and disorder on our planet. It is not meant to be a book for Muslims only, though those who follow it do enter the circle of Islam at one point or the other.
- The Quran must always be treated with respect and so would be the case when reciting it.
- It must not be read in a manner that is annoying to others nor in such a loud voice so that it becomes irritating to other people.
- All those who read the Quran, must do so with clear and pure intentions for, what you think while reciting or reading it, matters the most.
- It is not necessary to read the Quran in Arabic. Nor does only reading it bring about blessings, hence it should be read with proper understanding.
The above postulates are not for a specific group of religious beliefs but are meant for all those who intend to read and/or understand the message of God in the shape of the Holy Quran, as per Islamic beliefs.
